sukabumiNews, SUKABUMI CITY – The Indonesian National
Student Movement (GMNI) of Sukabumi Raya held another demonstration in front of
the Sukabumi Mayor's Office on Friday afternoon (September 12, 2025).
They demanded that Sukabumi Mayor Ayep Zaki fulfill
his political promise to revoke the mayoral regulation (Perwal) regarding DPRD
allowances, as promised by the Mayor during a previous GMNI demonstration.
"This increase in allowances is considered to
burden the regional budget (APBD) by up to IDR 20.9 billion per year, while
this amount of funds should be diverted to the holistic needs of the people,
including infrastructure improvements, education, health, and youth
empowerment," wrote the GMNI Sukabumi Raya Instagram account, as seen by
sukabumiNews on Friday (September 12).
"The promises of public officials are debts that
must be kept, not just lip service. The people's money must be returned to the
people, not enjoyed by a handful of elites," he added.
During their demonstration in front of the Mayor's
Office, a number of GMNI (National Movement for National Awakening) protesters
attempted to breach the gate of the Sukabumi City Government building,
demanding that the Mayor meet with the protesters and engage in dialogue.
Eventually, Mayor Ayep Zaki, accompanied by Deputy
Mayor Bobby Maulana, met with the protesters, despite the light rain. The
protesters refused the Mayor's invitation to enter City Hall for dialogue.
The protesters preferred to hold the dialogue outside
the building so that everyone would be aware of it. In addition to demanding
that Sukabumi Mayor Ayep Zaki fulfill his political promises, the protesters
were also questioned about Ubaidilah's dual position (Acting Director of the
Regional Water Company).
After the dialogue with the Mayor, the protesters
continued their march to the Sukabumi City Council (DPRD) building.
The demonstration proceeded peacefully. However, the
police officers deployed by the Sukabumi City Police and the Public Order
Agency remain on standby to anticipate any unwanted incidents. (Bait Elyas)
