sukabumiNews.net, LONDON – Israel recently killed Palestinian national team star Suleiman Al-Obeid, nicknamed the "Palestinian Pele," while waiting for aid in Rafah.

Upon learning of Suleiman Al-Obeid's death, Manchester United football legend Eric Cantona was outraged and expressed his support for Palestine.

"How long will we allow this genocide to happen??? Free Palestine," shouted Manchester United legend Eric Cantona, as quoted by Foot Mundo (10/8/2025).

Eric Cantona himself is a French football legend who is widely known for his time at Manchester United in the 1990s.

With the Red Devils, Cantona won four Premier League titles and two FA Cup trophies, as well as numerous individual awards such as PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year.

His name is also inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame, the English Football Hall of Fame, and the FIFA 100 list of the greatest living players. In 2019, Cantona received the UEFA President's Award in recognition of his achievements and social contributions.

Since retiring at the age of 30, Cantona has been active in the arts, film, and music. He has starred in several films, performed in theater, released the album "Cantona Sings Eric" and embarked on a concert tour.

Furthermore, Cantona coached the French national beach soccer team to the World Cup in 2005. Cantona also ventured into the tourism business through Looking FC and frequently participated in social campaigns, strengthening his image as an influential figure off the pitch.

Not only Cantona, Mohamed Salah also highlighted this news. The Liverpool player from Egypt responded to UEFA's tribute post with a sarcastically asked question.

"Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?" Salah wrote.

The reactions of these two world-renowned footballers have brought further attention to the conflict in Gaza, particularly its impact on civilians and sports figures.

The passing of Sulejman Al-Obeid is a significant loss for Palestinian football. Besides being a legend on the pitch, Obeid was also a symbol of dedication and resilience amidst the difficult circumstances plaguing his homeland. (Red*)
