Reopening of the Cihaur Gold Mining Area: A New Dawn for the Local Community
sukabumiNews.net,
SIMPENAN – The gold mining area located in the Cihaur Community Mining Area
(WPR), specifically in the former Cihaur plantation area, Simpenan Village,
Simpenan District, Sukabumi Regency, is now accessible again.
Responding to this,
Saepudin, Chairman of the Prosperous Mining Generation (GPS) Cooperative, which
manages the gold mine in the WPR, expressed his gratitude. He and the local
community welcomed the reopening of the mining area.
"With a spirit
of togetherness and mutual cooperation, after a long hiatus, my team and I are
delighted to welcome the resumption of artisanal mining operations,"
Saepudin told SukabumiNews in a statement on Monday (July 14, 2025).
Heri, a miner, also
expressed gratitude. He believes that mining activities can support his daily
needs.
"Finding work is
difficult. Thank God, I found work as a miner here. The income is enough to
cover my daily expenses," he said.

At the same location,
Jaka Susila, Head of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) branch in Sukabumi Regency,
commented on the reopening of access to this artisanal mining area during a
site visit.
According to Jaka,
this is inseparable from the struggle of the community living in the Artisanal
Mining Area (WPR), particularly those within the Prosperous Mining Generation
(GPS) Cooperative.
"We have witnessed
that the success of opening a mining area here has been the result of a long
and tiring struggle, both to obtain permits and to ensure the comfort of
carrying out activities," said Jaka Susila.
"Now is the time
for the local community to enjoy the natural resources available. Exploitation
of mining materials must always maintain environmental balance and
sustainability. Clearly, the goal is for the prosperity of the people," he
said.
However, Jaka said,
despite holding Artisanal Mining Permit (IPR) No. 16012200157090002/16/01/2022,
the mining community still lacks freedom to carry out their activities.
Nevertheless, Jaka
admitted that he fully supports GPS's efforts to fulfill the needs and improve
the welfare of the surrounding community.
"We fully
support their efforts to fulfill the needs and improve the welfare of the
surrounding community," he concluded.
