sukabumiNews.net, SUKABUMI REGENCY – Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General Maruli Simanjuntak and West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi inaugurated an agricultural irrigation system in Pangumbahan Village, Ciracap District, Sukabumi Regency, Tuesday (July 22, 2025).
Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak stated
that the new irrigation system will irrigate 424 hectares of land that
previously relied solely on rainfall. He stated that with a stable water
supply, farmers' harvests could increase from one to two or three times per
year.
"This project
demonstrates our commitment to supporting national food security. We are also
discussing with the Governor of West Java and the Logistics Agency (Bulog) to
ensure this initiative serves as a model for other regions in Indonesia,"
he explained.
The Army Chief of
Staff explained that in the past three years, the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) has
built more than 300 clean water access points in West Java through
collaboration with various parties, including CSR support. Going forward, this
collaboration will be accelerated, including in the construction of basic
education facilities in rural areas.
The Army Chief of
Staff further stated that West Java has received special attention from the TNI
AD due to the active support of the provincial government.
"The Governor is
the only regional head who has seriously come to us, discussed matters, and
sought real solutions for the community," he said.
Dedi Mulyadi Targets Rainfed Rice Fields in West Java to be Completed in the Next Two Years
Meanwhile, West Java Governor
Dedi Mulyadi is targeting completion of all rainfed rice fields in West Java
within the next two years. He believes that agriculture is the foundation of
the regional economy and must be supported by an adequate irrigation system.
"I've asked the Army
Chief of Staff to implement similar projects throughout West Java. In addition
to agricultural irrigation, we're also targeting the construction of 1,000
clean water points to meet the needs of residents, especially during the dry
season," he explained.
The Governor added
that although many areas in West Java use names containing the word
"cai" (water), many villages still struggle with clean water.
"This is an irony that we must change," he stated.
Also present at the
event were Sukabumi Regent H. Asep Japar, Sukabumi Regency DPRD Speaker Budi
Azhar Mutawali, and the Sukabumi Regency Forkopimda (Regional Leadership
Communication Forum).
Sukabumi Regent H.
Asep Japar welcomed the inauguration of the irrigation project in Ciracap
District. He is optimistic that with this irrigation system, farmers in Ciracap
can increase their harvest frequency to three or four times a year.
"This is the
beginning of a major change for our farmers. Hopefully, the community will
become more prosperous and Sukabumi can continue to progress," he
concluded.
Following the
inauguration, the Regent continued the agenda of the Rice Harvest Movement with
the Jaya Farmers Group in Ciburial Hamlet, Pangumbahan Village.
